Photo rejected for "quality issues". I would love feedback on why that might be.

You might want to still consider it going forward. Moderators in practice generally reject assets with leaning verticals and it’s an easy fix.

Some comments. The lone pigeon also has a strong bluish cast.

Thanks for the very specific feedback. I’ll work on training the birds to be more cooperative, but I’m not sure I should be bending the railing back to vertical.

You have a fun camera, and can improve in bringing more out of your images in post, contrast, color temp, play around.

More important, remember your shooting for an audience that will most likely add text and logos to your work, so your composition needs to adjust for that. Here are important things to remember:

Leaving negative space for text overlays

Shooting both horizontal and vertical versions

Creating versatile, clean compositions rather than highly stylized or personal ones

Last, keep in mind that you’ll need an edge that make your photos sell. For example, what do you think will sell more, your photo of the weathered steps or a photo of the same steps with a person reading a book? In other words, humanize your work!

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll work on those things. With regards to “a person reading a book”, I would have to get releases from those people to have them in my photos, right?
