REndering errors like this one may be the cause:

The faces and hands in both are over-simplified and the shadows on the faces is rather illogical. They should be a single color. As for the hands, some have fingers, some don't. 

In the first image the lines are choppy and not properly rendered. In the second image the hands are inconsistent - some have fingers and some don't.
