Question

Quality issues rejection

Seeking input on why this image was rejected both times for quality issues.

The first submission, Farm Fresh Eggs 1, was rejected citing quality issues. I thought maybe the focus was not pronounced enough on the main subject, so I re-edited  and brought up the texture, sharpness, and clarity a bit for a second submission (see Farm Fresh Eggs 2), but again, it was rejected for quality issues.

Thank you in advance for any constructive input.

I agree with @jacqueling. The highlights are overexposed.

Thank you everyone for your input, much appreciated. Here is the latest image with some of the changes suggested, such as highlights/shadows and cropping, applied.

I'm seeing too much yellow and brightness in the white egg myself.. I didn't have time to make precise selections, so the background tarp is too purple, but you should be able to see the difference in the eggs. Then again, I'm working under incandescent lighting now, so I might be way off.

I also see a slight yellow cast, so reduce the yellow a wee bit. You could use the eye dropper tool in the colour temperature slider (if you use camera Raw) as well as using the texture slider to bring a bit more texture to the eggs (for example).

White balance is also a slight issue in your original photos.

The fabric's colour influences the overall white balance of the photo.

Technically a good image, but a little problem with the shadow/highlights.

A little tip - the eggs at the side should be inside the frame or not. It's difficult for a designer to crop the image when  you already have cropped it.

The image is sharp. You see the eggshells structure very nicely, and you also see detail in the fabric structure.

Technically the image is also well exposed, but my really first impression when looking at this image were the hard shadows and the harsh highlights. The highlights completly blew out the structure of the white eggs. On the other side you have the strong shadows that really need to get pushed up. I agree with @Jill_C , that reflectors would have helped here.

You could try to edit in that direction: get the highlights less prominent, lighten the shadows and submit again. The composition is, I think great and the fabric adds authenticity. REally good, I like the picture.

Hi @micheleagarcia,

Eggs 1 is over exposed. You needed to bring down the highlights a bit and possibly exposure and white also.

The adjustment you made to produce the result of egg 2 produced an extreme with too much of a dynamic range. Details are lost in the shadows because the blacks are too black. You also could reduce the highlights a bit.

Best wishes

Jacquelin

Farm Fresh Eggs 2.jpg - I like the rustic background. The shadows are underexposed. If this was shot next a window, a reflector, or even just a sheet of white foam core board, could help to bounce some light back onto the subject.
