Hi, please help me understand why this photo was rejected for quality issues. Should it be cropped 5x4? Thanks!

Zoom in to inspect more closely and you'll easily see the digital noise.

  • There is noticable noise. As this is an ISO100 picture, I would guess that you did some editing to lift the exposure.
  • The asset is not really sharp. I'm always wondering why people insist in taking pictures at the widest opening the lens provides. The DOF is very narrow, and most lenses do not perform well when pushed to the limits.
  • The histogram is off, you applied a filter tat adds a flat appearance (low contrast) and cut's off blacks and whites. As that may be an interesting effect for art, it's not a good idea for stock.
  • The white balance is warm, but my guess is that this is due to the daytime.
  • There can't be enough sky, but you also need some base, and that is missing. So yes, a bit less sky and more base would be helpful. I can add sky, if needed, but adding base is not possible. Looking at @Nancy OShea 's example, I would select that one over yours, as it has all the possibilities, but none of your issues.

The white balance is off.  Too many yellow tones. Not enough contrasts. Too much sky.

This is what you're competing with in Stock.
