Seeking Feedback on Why Rejected Due to Quality Issues

Hi there,

Looking for some constructive criticism.

While there is some shadow clipping, it seemed justified to me, given the nature of the image.

I think the histogram reveals a lot about the 3 photos that you've shared, they are all missing information on the whites portion and represents underexposure with the bulk of the information towards the blacks and shadows.

Photography is always at odds between technical perfection and artistic creativity and expression. With commercial stock photography the technical aspects are important because of all the potential ways it might be used.

The underexposure really shows itself when trying to raise the exposure until there is detail in the dark areas. I noticed very heavy banding and artifacting when attempting to do this with this photo. I don't think editing will save this unfortunately.

Hello,

I think you could alter the white balance a bit. It doesn't look right. Silhouettes do pass, but this one I'm afraid isn't a good silhouette. There is too much black and no strong outline. A silhouette should have a strong outline - hence silhouette!

Send to completion. People who work with photo evaluation often contradict themselves.

If you are suggesting that the photographer continue to resubmit his work until it is eventually accepted by a different Moderator, this is bad advice. Adobe considers this spamming and it can get your account blocked. It is, however, okay to re-edit to address the quality issues if possible, and resubmit.

Get rid of the clipping and the spots and try to resubmit. I have some pictures of this style, and they passed. Needless to say, that they don't sell. But well, you never know...

It may be also that you will need to adjust the white balance and/or the saturation. I'm currently looking this on my iPad, it's not the best screen to apreciate this.

Adobe are looking for a particular kind of photography - clean and perfect. This is because many of their customers want, expect and demand this. If Adobe accept "moody" or "arty" pictures, some customers complain and demand refunds; Adobe's reputation suffers. So, put aside your personal preferences and make the kind of craft Adobe like (in underrepresented, popular subjects, if you want to sell any).

Thanks! Bummer - I do like the composition and the photo looks good as a print. But, I see what you mean when I raise the exposure level. Does this mean any photo with sort of shadow/silouette quality will be rejected unless limited to smaller areas?

You can silhouette a well exposed image fairly easily, but it's much more difficult to un-silhouette a photo.

Hi @John273160159ux1 ,

The photo is underexposed. There is no details in the black section. There's a halo around the edge of the subjects. It is not focused. and it is noisy.
