Selling Illustrations of Famous People?

Can I sell art-styled illustrations of famous people on microstock sites?

(Public, private, dead or alive if they are different)

When I browse Adobe Stock I see that there are almost no images of famous people, zero photos from what I could find but I did find an illustration of Abraham Lincon So how does that work with model release?

I have exactly that, an art illustration of a famous person. He is dead now. Can I submit him as

"No recognizable people" or recognizable but without model release. how da heck did that Lincon illustration get on Adobe stock?

General response: no. Every recognizable person needs to be submitted with a model realease, except those dead more than 100 years ago. It's different for editorial use, but that you cannot submit in Adobe stock.

100 years dead should be ok, so long as you are using a source that old too.
