Hi,

My image was rejected for technical reasons. If anyone can give some advice on it, I'll be grateful.

Thanks for your time.

fringing and artifacts can be seen at 350%. Look at the bird.

@reedesign1912 did a good job on this! Maybe I could add that the picture is underexposed as shown on the histogram:

(no whites, half of the highlights are gone).

The upper-left corner is disturbing. I consider the different dust patches as on the window, but I would anyhow clone them out.

You should also keep away from making "artistic" looks, the more natural, the better it is.

The picture will throw an IP violation, as the building looks quite iconic.

In my opinion, the white balance is off and the image is too blue.  The colours also seem to be over saturated.  The whole image needs to be rotated counter clockwise so that the building is level on the bottom and ideally crop out the blurred plants in the bottom left corner.  There are lots of marks on the windows (may be reflections from items inside, could be dust on your sensor, could just be dirt on the actual windows.) I would clean up those spots / clone them out.  Around the seagull, there seems to be a bit of a halo as well that should be fixed.

I am not sure if the building is recognisable to the owners.  You may have an IP (Intellectual Property) issue as well that would require a property release.

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks a lot Rob for these remarks. I, effectively, like saturated colors. Marks on the windows are... marks on the window. You're right, there's a slight halo around the seagul and the level could be better and image cropped a bit as you mentionned.

I just subscribed as a contributor and I'm pleased to see people like you helping me. I'll examine twice, or more, my pics next time before uploading !

Happy to offer an opinion Vincent.  The community here has been extremely helpful to me as well.  One of the things I did when I first joined was read through a lot of past posts, especially rejections with technical issues.  It helped me understand how to be more critical of my own work such as:

  • Always check your photos at 100% - 200% magnification to see errors, artifacts, sensor spots, fringing, etc.
  • Make sure my horizons are level and vertical lines are straight
  • Check my exposure levels to make sure shadows aren't underexposed and highlights aren't overexposed
  • Look at my cropping, pay attention to the rule of thirds, is the subject of my photo truly the focus point

Adobe Help resources were also very helpful to me:

Best of luck to you and happy contributing.
