Unable to add a phone number

I am unable to add my phone number to a contributor account.

i have a UK number and once I have entered my number and selected UK on the dropdown menu I get an error message saying error occurred while performing this action.

can anyone help

Is your account also located in the UK? The phone number must correspond to the account localization!

I checked my profile location and it was set to USA, I changed it to UK and it worked.
