Hey Forum,

can you help me finding the quality issues in this Foto. I love it. It is a sculpture by Rembrandt. Photographed in Leiden.

Thank you in advance.

Please check the image quality by enlarging it to 100% on your computer screen.
The focus is poor and it's not sharp.
It was rejected due to poor image quality, but as others have said, if you're registering art, it's a good idea to prepare a property release.

    Hey @peterbongers

Also keep in mind to delete / remove some unwanted distractions:
    -  the plaque, the lamp post, stairway gap, and other bits.

    • the images need to be very clean and clear.
    • having a tripod or mono pod helps
    • focus on something you have a passion or a deep interest in and attempt to capture it in the way you see it. What is the story that you have and want to tell? Eg. Coffee… even though the market is super saturated… you might have a unique perspective or story to tell that embodies the idea of coffee for you.

      the image is cool.
      cheers Nate

I totally feel your frustration, but in today’s market, we really have to think about what nobody else is doing so we can capture things that truly stand out. Nowadays, the competition is so high that we can't just take a standard shot; we have to find the best of the best perspectives while obsessing over technical quality to avoid common flaws. Looking at your photo, the main issues are the cluttered background where the sculpture competes with houses and trees, the harsh flat lighting, and distracting elements like the lamp post and signage. we have to move past these 'tourist' angles and work on capturing unique, high-quality moments that a thousand other people haven't already uploaded. It's a tough market for all of us, so the only way forward is to stay creative and push for perfection in every detail. also Even if a sculpture is in a public park, the artist (or their estate) often still owns the copyright to the design, meaning you cannot sell a photo of it commercially without a signed Property Release also keep these things in mind best of luck.

The background has leaning verticals, and it would have been better to select a shallower depth of field so that the subject would be in sharp focus and the background would fall off into soft focus. Nevertheless, had the quality issues not caused a rejection, I believe it would have been rejected for IP.

You mean Rembrandt Bugatti, the Italian sculptor best known for his bronze animal statues.

Do you have a signed Property Release by the entity that owns this statue?

You’ll need one to sell images of it commercially. If not, you can’t sell it on Stock.

    Hello,

A few issues. One is that it will probably come under IP rights. Because it is a work done by somebody else, you will need their permission to use it for commercial purposes. Adobe Stock is used for commercial purposes.

Another issue is your composition, the figure blends into the background.

Below are a couple of links from Adobe:
