What is the Recommended Illustrator Version for Vector Files?

I couldn't see anything regarding the recommended Illustrator version for vector files, so I assume any version is okay. But I've seen many posts by customers complaining that they couldn't only a particular AI file due to version incompatibility. So can anyone from Adobe recommend a safe AI version to save?

Well, the lowest Ai version will get the least problems to the customers, but only if you're not using advanced features needing a higher version. Best is to use the latest version with the PDF data embedded. This will give the customer the opportunity to use the file (with some drawbacks) even if they do not have access to the latest Illustrator.

As a customer you should have access to the latest Illustrator version for the best experience.

And how about the proprietary AI files?
