Question

What is wrong with this picture?

I really tried to think of everything: location, storytelling, lighting, camera setup (shot on an iPhone 14 Pro). But it still got rejected for “quality issues”? I honestly don’t get it, especially when so much AI-generated stuff gets accepted there. And we don’t even get any proper feedback. Or was the location not perfect enough?

    Hey @natureloving_naturalist
The image is a bit dull. Remember to take your image into PS and use a levels, curve, exposure, and hue and saturation adjustment layers to name a few ways to make the image pop.

Clean up the image a bit remove unwanted distractions.
Taking a photo is one thing the other is the post production work.

Take photos because you like taking photos.

    Cheers

    Hi @natureloving_naturalist

There are signs of motion blur

Sections of your photo is out of focus due to shallow depth of field. The capture could also be more vibrant.

There are certain limitations with using phone cam for your stock photos. For example, F-stop settings are absent and limited with the multi-lens implemented to compensate. There are other limitation that will make it difficult for you to get images accepted on Adobe.

    Best wishes

Have you made sure your iPhone14 settings are set at the camera’s highest setting?

Also, understand that even if you have done that, each time you shoot, you must choose those settings before shooting. The iPhone 14 is able to give you enough quality for Adobe to accept.

Now here is some very good news: Your phone can shoot better quality video than still photos.

For a video of this steps, you will need to go to settings for “Enhanced Stabilization” you will be amazingly surprised how good the videos will be. If you decide to do this, make sure you shoot at 4k 30 fps

Practice makes perfect! If you don’t know how to edit Yet, make clean 8-10 second clips

Use AI to get all the quick ways you can do basic edits with software the phone already has.

Here is the MOST CRITICAL part of the advice, you still need to spend more time thinking of your shots and composition, remove any garbage or identifiable brand that will make the video get rejected.

This week I sold the same video twice shot with an iPhone, this is the video:

    https://stock.adobe.com/stock-photo/id/1870992961

And do yourself a Huge favor, do not think that bc something already exists, you can’t shoot a better of more sellable version.

    Best of luck to you!

This is what you’re competing with in Stock inventory (AI content filtered out).

As a customer, which photograph would you buy for a commercial project?

    Hello,

The overall quality of smartphones - regardless of the brand - generally isn’t so good when enlarged. So, for publiucation purposes–if it were to be enlaerged or printed–the quality becomes poorer. This is one reason for quality rejection.

Another could be focus. The top of the stairs are not so sharp.

Another is composition. Photos that sell have very good composition and are thought about very carefully. You have to think of market value. Opinions may vary, but will people want to buy this? Good question!

So, there are a number of reasons why this got rejected. Shooting for stock is not so easy!

Thanks for your answer. I’ll probably get a camera, but first I need to make at least a little money from selling. I know it’s not going to make me rich, but I also don’t want it to turn into a huge money pit...

you dont really need a camera. first you need to understand about triangle exposure. shutter speed, iso, aperture. for phone you cant change aperture but you can change shutter speed. your photo seems taken with slow speed that cause motion blur. if the condition are less light you gonna need a tripod to make the photo steady with timer. you need to use pro mode to use the right iso and speed. maybe 100-400 iso
