Question

Why Thanksgiving photo was rejected?

Hi all!  I am completely new to posting stock photos online.  I take all my photos on my camera or iPhone.  I was wondering why this photo was rejected.  I thought it was pretty decent!  Also if you have any feedback on the photo's name or important keywords you would suggest to tag it, that would be great!  Do you think it could be resubmitted if the mistakes are corrected?  Also are there other stock image websights you would suggest for stock photo selling beginners?

Hi @mountain_laurel ,

The photo is noisy and not completely in focus due to shallow depth of field. The subject sharpness is essential to maximize your sale potential. Many people will want to crop the subject out of it's background. If the edge is not sharp, cropping will be difficult.

Best wishes

Jacquelin

Food Photography is a highly specialized talent.

Yours lacks any WOW factor.  Your lights, camera technique and presentation could all be better.

This is your competition.

Do a Google search for Royalty-Free images.  There are lots of other stock services with varying quality standards & pay rates.

I think the white balance may be a bit too yellow, and the DOF is rather shallow, such that only a narrow "slice" of the pie is in focus.

You've taken a slice of the cake (I hope you ate it and that it was good) and left it on a table that doesn't even look like real wood. You took your camera and shot without even looking at the composition, which is very poor. You didn't light: you used the ambient light of the room (probably a kitchen). With a simple flash with a diffuser and a reflective panel you would have achieved a much better result. The glare on the table and the shadow on the plate look very bad. Gastronomic photography requires more elaboration. You should have included some ingredients in the shot, or some props to accompany the protagonist of the photo, because he looks very lonely in the scene. Ask yourself a question: would you choose this photo to promote your pastry business? I wouldn't. And neither would you.

It's ever so slightly leaning on the left, and there's an object in the top right-hand corner that needs to be removed.

Also, it was rejected for quality issues.
