"An aspect ratio of 16:9 and a duration of 8 seconds is required to generate when using reference images with Veo 3.1."

My settings are 1080p, Vertical (9:16), and 8 seconds, so the error appears to be incorrect. Please investigate.

    Hi MAJAWAD,
Thank you for reaching out. I completely understand why this message seems incorrect since you clearly have your settings on 9:16, not 16:9.

However, the error message isn't misreading your current settings; rather, it is stating the strict requirement for using the reference image feature. Currently, Veo 3.1 only supports reference images if your aspect ratio is set to 16:9 (Landscape). Because you have it set to 9:16 (Vertical), the system blocks the generation and displays this rule to let you know what needs to be changed.

To successfully generate using your reference image, you will need to switch your aspect ratio to Landscape (16:9) while keeping the 8-second duration.

Give that a try and let us know if it works for you!

Important note: While Firefly models and most partner models have restrictions that do not permit children to be used in keyframes in video generation (including Veo 3.1), the Runway Gen-4.5 and Kling 2.5 Turbo do allow children in keyframes.
