Clarification Required: Commercial Resale of Adobe Firefly-Generated Sound Effects

Hello Adobe Community,

I am using Adobe Firefly Text-to-Sound Effects on the Free plan to create original short notification sounds and sound effects for my small digital audio business, Anujj Soundworks.

My workflow is as follows:

  1. Generate sound effects using my own text prompts in Adobe Firefly.

  2. Generate multiple variations and select the most suitable output.

  3. Edit and refine the selected audio in Audacity (trimming, volume adjustment, compression, equalisation, reverb and normalisation).

  4. Export the final audio as WAV and MP3 files.

  5. Sell the finished audio files individually or as downloadable collections.

I intend to distribute these products through my own digital storefront (Payhip or Gumroad) and potentially through third-party marketplaces such as Zedge.

My main question is about selling the generated audio files themselves, rather than simply using them in larger creative projects.

Could an Adobe employee or someone familiar with Adobe's licensing terms please clarify the following?

  1. Does Adobe permit users of the Firefly Free plan to commercially sell Firefly-generated sound effects as standalone WAV or MP3 downloads?

  2. Does editing and mastering the generated audio in Audacity change or affect the commercial-use permissions?

  3. Can multiple Firefly-generated sounds be packaged into a ZIP file and sold as a downloadable collection?

  4. Does this permission differ between the Free plan and paid Firefly plans?

  5. Are there any restrictions on distributing these files through Payhip, Gumroad or marketplaces such as Zedge?

I understand that Firefly-generated outputs may not be unique and may not qualify for copyright protection. My question is specifically about whether Adobe's terms permit this type of commercial distribution and resale.

I have reviewed Adobe's Firefly FAQ and the current Generative AI Product Specific Terms, but I would appreciate a clear answer addressing this specific business model.

I am not asking about embedding audio in videos, advertisements or applications. I specifically want to know whether selling the audio files themselves as downloadable digital products is permitted.

Thank you for your clarification.

Why You Can't Sell the Files on Payhip

    • The Standalone Restriction: Adobe's product terms and standard licensing logic mean that you cannot repackage raw AI outputs to sell them as a product to third parties for their own subsequent commercial use. [1]
    • Distributor vs. End-User: Adobe's commercial clearance is intended for end-use integration. When you sell audio files individually or in ZIP collections on a marketplace like Payhip, you are operating as a stock/asset distributor rather than utilizing the tools for a commercial project workflow. Thank you for the detailed explanation. I appreciate the clarification.

However, I still need an authoritative answer from Adobe before launching my digital audio business.

    My specific question is:

Does Adobe's commercial-use permission for Firefly Text to Sound Effects allow a Free-plan user to sell the generated audio files themselves (WAV/MP3), either individually or in ZIP collections, through digital marketplaces such as Payhip?

This is not about using the sounds in videos, advertisements or other creative projects. The audio files themselves would be the products being sold.

Could an Adobe employee or an appropriate licensing representative please confirm this, or direct me to the department that can provide written clarification?

I would prefer to resolve this before accepting payments or distributing the files commercially.

    Thank you.
