Credits are consumed even though images are not generated due to a server error

Due to a server error, images are not generated, but credits are still being consumed. Is this by design?

The server is currently temporarily overloaded.

We are currently experiencing a high volume of generation processes. Please wait a moment.

The message above appears, but images are never regenerated and the game has stopped working.

I would like my credits back at the very least.
