Firefly Cross-Product Creative Challenge #3: Fantasy Illustration

This is the challenge where you get to play with all your favorite tools, and perhaps try out some you’ve never used before.

Imagine a forest populated by elves, mages, and magical creatures. Generate a character from your forest using Firefly, Photoshop, Adobe Express, or text-to-vector in Illustrator to begin. Expand the scene, adjust the lighting and colors, and add elements that help create an illustration for the ages. Save an image, screenshot, or video clip of your final artwork, post it as a reply to this post, and describe your process and which tools you used.

This example uses multiple generated images composited in Photoshop, adjusted with the Camera Raw filter, and fleshed out with Generative Expand and Generative Fill.

There are no prizes other than the joy of creating and the experience gained in making different tools work together to a final creative product. What can you create?

Another fun challenge! I started with generating the cats in Firefly, took those into Photoshop, removed background, merged the cats layers into one layer and generated a new background. Then adjusted the colors a bit, et voila!

Prompt: Create a fantasy image with kings and queens
Side Note: Oddly I feel it's just queens with no kings in a Disney style of a Frozen scene!

Story can be as much about what you don't say, so that it can unfold in the mind of the viewer. This is another image in a series compositing together fantasy watercolor images from Firefly. These were the two main images (miniature versions):

After editing, coloring, and lighting adjustments in Photoshop, not to mention running the Spherize action from the Adobe Looking Glass action set, the piece needed cropping to fix aspect ratio and composition, several sets of Generative Fill, and a few more adjustments. Finally, the queen (goddess? mother spirit?) benefited from a tiny adjustment in Liquify to get the expression I wanted as she apparently estimates the knight's character. Why? Who are they? There are a dozen dozen stories here.

Workflow: Firefly to Photoshop to expand Poseidon pose, back to Firefly with reference made in Photoshop then Finishing in Photoshop. Hope it's cross platform enough...

I wanted to depict an epic battle between two demonic creatures in an enchanted forest.

I first created this image using Firefly.

Then I brought the image into Photoshop.
I first extended out the sides in order to create a more landscape feel, by using the Generative Fill feature.

Then, to add some texture, I applied the Craquelure Filter.

And this is the final scene.

Wow. I've not used Craquelure in a long time! That was creative thinking drawn from decades of experience!

A mystical forest at twilight, where giant glowing mushrooms cast a soft luminescent light. A woman silver and green armor stands beside a crystal-clear waterfall, fireflies swirl in the air, and in the background, a towering tree with golden leaves rises above the forest canopy
This is what firefly came up with.

Hi Mariam! Okay, so that's what Firefly gave you. What will you do with it?

Blimey! Wouldn't want to meet her on a dark night. Wonderfully sinister! Carilliantine has such a rich set of unusual ligatures. This is a nice use of them.

Thank you Alan! Yes, I thought it was a good font for this artwork.
And don't worry, as for the forest guardian, I'm sure she'd let you enter the forest and go through the Torii gates without a problem 🙂

This king was magically turned into a bird

Indeed. Off with his head!

With this change, I think you might want to brighten the human figure. She is now the side and apex of a very strong triangular composition, and her face is on a Rule of Thirds node. On both counts, she should dominate the image, yet the peacock competes for focus because it's so bright. Try that out, and see if it doesn't look better to you.

Some of my favourite space fantasies.
Multiple generations, perspective shifts, colour and lighting adjustments, lens flare 😉

Best regards, Euan.

Aye, lad. I love the post-neolithic skyscrapers! It's not often you see Daleks and Klingons in the same frame, not to mention the vaguely Sontaran flying saucer pilot. I'm guessing the warbird captain spotted the Doctor's police box and decided to find somewhere safer for shore leave.

Good start. Where's the rest? The challenge is to build a scene using more than one app.
