how to recolor images

I need to recolor a technical image depicting electrical cabinets and storage systems. Normally (until now), I've worked with Photoshop selections (also thanks to Lab Method ) and layers. I'd like to go faster by using the AI models available in Adobe Firefly. Today I gave it a try, but the result wasn't what I expected: Gemini produced a well-colored image in some very complex areas (grills and container doors, which required some areas to be colored differently), while it blurred other areas.

I uploaded two images: the image to be edited (the image that needs to be recolored) and the image with the reference colors. I used this prompt:
Role & Reference Handling (CRITICAL): Act as an expert Industrial Product Designer and 3D Rendering Specialist. I have uploaded two reference images. You must clearly separate their roles:
Use Image 1 (Branded System) STRICTLY for the visual aesthetic, corporate color palette (Energy brand colors), material finishes, and overall brand identity.
Use Image 2 (New Unbranded System) STRICTLY for the absolute structural layout, physical proportions, geometric shapes, and composition (including the PCS cabinets, transformer cabinets, and support structure).
Task: Perform a precise style transfer and rebranding. Redesign the exact system shown in Image 2 by applying the corporate color palette, paint finishes, and branding aesthetic extracted from Image 1.
Constraints & Preservation (CRITICAL): Every single structural aspect, mechanical component, and the physical layout of Image 2 MUST remain exactly 1:1 unchanged. Do NOT add, remove, or alter any cabinets, support structures, or transformers. You are only applying a new "coat of paint" and brand identity over the existing geometry.
Style & Lighting: High-end commercial industrial photography. Clean, photorealistic rendering with professional studio lighting to highlight the new corporate colors and metallic textures. Clean, solid background.
Negative Constraints: Zero structural modifications to Image 2. No AI shape morphing, no alterations to the 3D layout, no AI artifacts, no messy backgrounds.

could someone suggest me how to proceed ?

p.s.: I didn't upload the images because I can't.

It seems that using Firefly (not Boards) and a very simple prompt, the result is very close to what I expect:
Color the first image using the colors in the second image as a reference.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't understand two things:
    - Is your prompt just a guide to follow, suggesting coloring one piece at a time?
    - Why was your answer marked as "best answer"?

    :D

I have produced an example image with the indication of how I would like to perform the painting

    Hey @Milkoconlaelle

Adobe Firefly boards could be an option. Model Gemini 3

Could you use this prompt with the reference image?
    Prompt:
Keep the original, Use the original image, keep the background, Use the 3d layout, change the grill to

Remember to ask specifically for what you want. Use active language. Negative prompts tend to confuse AI.

    Cheers
