Question

When I open images from my Firefly generation history on mobile, I receive the attached message stating that the original model is not supported on mobile and that a default model has been selected for post-generation adjustments.

These images were created only a few days ago. When I open them on desktop, the model shown is Gemini 3.1 with Nano Banana 2. I am unsure whether that was the original model or whether Firefly is now displaying a replacement model.

Since this warning began appearing, regenerating the exact same saved prompts has produced noticeably different results. My established handcrafted chibi felt characters previously had smooth, simplified faces, tiny black bead eyes, stitched mouths and compact plush proportions. The same prompts now automatically produce defined noses, realistic eyes, visible necks, longer bodies and a stop-motion puppet appearance—even when earlier images are included as references.

Can Adobe confirm:

Which model originally generated these images?
Which default model is being substituted?
Is this automatic substitution expected behavior or a bug?
Was Gemini 3.1 or its rendering behavior recently updated?
Is there a way to prevent the model from changing when reopening or adjusting an older generation?

I have not been able to find an announcement or changelog explaining this change. It is frustrating because it has disrupted the visual consistency of an ongoing series and made previously reliable prompts difficult to use. It is also causing credits to be spent troubleshooting behavior that changed without a clear explanation.

Hi noel_7579!A real model rollout occurred on September 10: Firefly replaced the older Gemini 2.5 / Nano Banana in relevant automatic image-editing flows with Gemini 3.1 / Nano Banana 2. That switch can explain the reported change from simplified felt characters to more detailed, realistic anatomy—even with identical visible prompts. Thank you for confirming this. That explains the change I’ve been experiencing since the update.

Is there anything I can do within Firefly to get results closer to what I was receiving before the September 10 model change?

The more detailed and realistic anatomy produced by the newer model is specifically what I do not want for my work. My characters are intentionally designed as simplified handmade felt/chibi dolls, with very minimal facial features, simple rounded/mitten-style hands, and non-realistic anatomy. Before the update, Firefly consistently understood this style from my prompts and reference images.

Since the model change, the same prompts and references are producing characters with realistic hands, fingers, facial anatomy, and more human-like proportions. Adding instructions such as “simplified anatomy,” “mitten hands,” and “no realistic human features” has not reliably corrected it.

Is there a setting, model selection, reference-image workflow, or other option that would allow me to preserve the simpler results I was getting previously? If not, is there any way to access the previous model or request that Adobe provide an option for users who do not want the increased realism?

This change has made Firefly significantly more difficult for my particular workflow because the newer realism works against the established visual style of my characters. I would really appreciate any guidance on how I can continue creating the simplified felt characters I was able to make before the update.
