Badges for re-certifications

We are assigning badges for an annual Compliance certification we are enrolling our learners into, and would like to confirm that each time a user re-certifies, a new badge (with that day's date) is issue to the learner (i.e., the badge is not just issued the first time the certification is completed).

Can anyone confirm this?
