I have created modules. I then created a course. I published the course. Once published we wanted to add more to the course ... however I cannot update the course with new modules i.e. I can edit the text etc BUT I cannot add more modules to the course... What am I doing wrong?

There is an alternative method that can be used once a course is modified.  Since course's are always evolving where updates are routine and require frequent modification, it is important to transfer those improvements, updates, modifications, etc. to the Captivate Prime course.

To do this, I first make the necessary improvements in the Captivate Program.  Next, I log into Captive Prime as the author and go to the modules page.  Select the module name in the module library.  Click "Change" next to Content.  (Your content is typically a compressed zipped file).  Next, click "Upload Content" and browse to the upload content and click "Open".   Go to the top right corner of the page and click "Save".  You will notice a new version number now is associated with the module file.

This process can be used each time you need to change or make modifications to a course and is easier than retiring a course, then moving it to draft state so that it can be deleted, duplicated, and then republished.

Hope this helps.

I use this method too James. Agree - it's a very useful method.

I am encountering the same issue and I am very disappointed that I can't change a course once it is published. What if I want to add a new resource in response to class feedback? Or what if I need to cancel a classroom session? Also, even though you can update a module, you can't delete it, meaning my module list is now totally cluttered with test modules and other content that I no longer need. These are major limitations.

Hi Dimitri,

You can add modules to a specific course before it has been published.

In case you wish to modify the contents of a course once it has been published, then you duplicate the course first and then edit it and add or modify the modules that are part of that course.

To duplicate a course, hover the mouse over a specific course and then click on the "Duplicate Course" option.

Once done, you may publish this again to get the updated course. In case needed, you may now retire the original course which had lesser modules.

Sharad

How strange. I had the same issue, found it very hard to figure out how to add a module to an existing course. This is something that could happen a lot, so my question is. If I have to duplicate the course, and then retire the "old" course, do I have to 1) Reassign the course to the people who need to take it, and 2) Will the lesson's results be transferred over (i.e. people who have already taken the existing lessons int he course. If find this very messy and strange. Can you provide a little more information about it?

Hi,

To add modules to an existing course, you must duplicate it and then add modules and publish. After this, you can assign it to the learners. We do not transfer results across the courses because Prime treats a course and it duplicate as 2 separate entities and does not mix the enrollment data and result.

When admin retires a course, Prime preserves its history, scores and reporting data, but the retired course will not be available for further enrollment.

If you have any further queries, feel free to post it here.

Have a nice day.

Ruchi Rathore.
