I cannot get the rapid scan to turn handwritten papers into editable word document text, the resulting scan is just literally a direct scan no handwriting to text conversion

    @CarolynMamchur thanks for the clarification. I understand that you scanned a handwritten document and even after exporting it as PDF or Word, it still appears as handwriting and cannot be edited.

    Currently, handwritten text recognition is limited in Adobe Scan. The app primarily converts printed text into editable text using OCR. When the document contains handwritten content, the app usually keeps it as an image within the PDF/Word file rather than converting it into editable text.

    A couple of things you may want to check:

    • Make sure OCR (Text Recognition) has completed on the scanned file.

    • Try exporting the file, to to home page (Adobe Scan app) > Tap on ‘More’ > Export PDF > Microsoft Word (.docx) after the scan has processed.

    • If the handwriting is very clear and block-style, OCR may capture small portions, but cursive or irregular handwriting is often not recognized.

    Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Scan and the iOS you are using? Tap on the profile icon > About Adobe Scan and try updating it to the latest verison available on the App Store and reboot the device once.

     

    Is this an issue with a particular document file or with all the documents? Please try with a different file and check. Also a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs would be very helpful for a better understanding.

    Im doing well, thank you for helping

    ios 26.3.1 

    just updated adobe scan to the latest version

    Here’s a short video 

    It always just takes a normal scan of the document and converts it to pdf.

    when I first tried this app a few weeks ago. I scanned some hand written material and converted it all to editable word document text not a problem

    Thank you for sharing the information and the video. However, we are unable to check what happens when you try to edit the handwritten text? Please share the complete video of the process for better investigation.

    Also please check some suggestions as listed below and see if that helps:

    • Ensure handwriting is legible to improve accuracy.
    • Use good lighting to avoid shadows and glare.
    • You can also use Adobe Acrobat online services (https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/acrobat/ocr-pdf) to convert scanned PDF images to editable Word documents.
