Files in Adobe Scan have disappeared

While I scanned a document yesterday when I went back in my list of pdfs I've noticed that all my odds have disappeared.  I've tried to follow some of the advice I found on the community but without any success. Luckily everything I've lost is in my dropbox. But how do I avoid this happening again?
