Question

Unable to click camera button

I just installed Adobe Scan for Android.  I  gave requested permissions and then went into the screen where it lets me scan.

The camera area is dark and the button is grayed out so I cannot take pictures of my book. I have rebooted and reinstalled twice. I have double checked the permissions and I have camera and notifications.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well, and sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

As described, the Camera button in the Adobe Scan app is not working and greyed out. As you have tried some troubleshooting steps with no luck, would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Scan app and the OS you are using?

Also, try the steps below and see if that works:

1. Double-check camera permissions again: Sometimes Android needs both "Camera" and "Files and media" permissions. You can check this by:

  • Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Adobe Scan > Permissions

  • Make sure Camera, Storage/Files and media, and Location (if asked) are all allowed.

2. Check if another app is using the camera: If another app (like WhatsApp or Instagram) has the camera running in the background, it can block Adobe Scan. Try closing all other apps and then reopen Adobe Scan.

3. Try switching modes: When you're in the scan screen, tap the bottom bar to switch modes (like switching from "Auto" to "Manual") — that sometimes brings the camera into working.

4. Clear the app cache:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Adobe Scan > Storage

  • Tap Clear Cache

Let us know how it goes.
