Unable to download offline in iOS Files app “ couldn’t communicate with a helper application”

When accessing Adobe Scan files through the Files app in iOS on an up-to-date iPhone 15, I consistently get the error "couldn't communicate with a helper application" when trying to download the drive offline (clicking cloud with arrow button). The Drive shows an error state at all times. I have tried reinstalling the app and turning the Adobe Scan drive off and back on again in the files app, which did not change anything.
