18.2 and 18.2.1 stuck on "initializing MediaCore" upon splash screen launch

Question

Hi everyone,

I recently updated After Effects and the software wouldn't launch. It gets stuck on "initializing MediaCore" whenever I boot it up. I tried to roll it back to 18.2 and I still get the same error. But when I roll it back to 18.1 it starts up fine. All of my drivers are updated.

My specs:

Intel i7-7700HQ @ 2.8GHz

16 GB RAM

GeForce GTX 1050 4GB GPU with the most recent Studio Drive installed (462.95)

Any help would be great, thank you!

Hi nik72315813,

Sorry for the crash issue.

Do you have any third-party plug-ins installed? If so, try uninstalling and removing them from the MediaCore folder temporarily (remove all the files and folders except dummy.txt). Here's the location to MediaCore folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore
