Hi everyone

I want to ask about how vital it is to have the 4 GB of GPU VRAM dedicated graphics card?

I am just getting into making  animated infographics. My main work is with Tableau and so I need to use the intel MacBooks still.    Currently, I have a 16 gig RAM Macbook Pro 2020 with the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics card.  But from what I am reading I should upgrade.

Would I be ok with the following specs?

2020 Macbook pro

Intel 7

32 ram

intel iris plus graphics 1536 mb

What are the main use cases for when you need the  4 GB of GPU VRAM ?

After Effects is only as powerful as the hardware we run it on, but working at 1920-by-1080 should be fine - it just won't be fast compared to a higher end laptop.  Working at 3840-by-2160 will require running Previews at Quarter resolution to work more quickly.

Continue with what you have.  Wait to see if it's feeling too slow based on how you work and, if so, buget for an new, more powerful laptop.  It's easy to get into the $3,500 to $5,500 range for faster performance.

My main use case is making non 3D animated infographics and short explainer video etc...
