I imported a obj. file into after effects. The object has a label around it but the lid en bottom needs to be from metal. How do I create a metalic look for these parts?

Now the whole object is white

See picture as how it looks right now

The texturing and lighting capabilities in the current release and the current Beta are very primitive. If you need a lot more control over lighting and materials, use a 3rd party plugin like VIDEO COPILOT | Element 3D.

C4D lite, which comes with After Effects, has much better material options than the Advanced 3D rendering options, but it's still limited. Check the limitations of the Rendering engines by opening the Composition Settings/3D Rendering tab and look at the different properties that are disabled with you choose Advanced 3D or C4D rendering.

If you need full 3D and don't have a budget, there is always HTTP://blender.org. It's a very powerful and open-source 3D app that integrates well with After Effects. I do most of my 3D modeling in Blender, even though I have the full version of C4D, because that's where I learned to do 3D years ago.
