Question

Add texture to text in 3d layer

I have been getting into creating lyric videos and have been trying to figure out how to go about adding texture to text as a 3d layer. When I do, the texture is not fixated on the text, it kinda floats around as the camera moves. I've even tried making the texture a 3d layer and put it in the same position as the text itself but it still does the same thing. I've tried using the "texturize" effect as well as setting the track matte on the text to luma/inverted with the texture image as the track matte layer. Any tips will be helpful, thanks.

Are you using the C4D renderer?  That limits what you can do with blending modes with 3D text etc... but you can hack it by precomping text layers.

I am not, and for that reason specifically. But that is nice to know for the future as I'm looking for ways to kinda of do something more with my text.

Add your texture layer to the comp and put it above the text layer. Make the layer 3D. Shift + Parent the texture layer to the 3D comp then then set the Z position of the parented 3D texture layer to -1. This will keep the texture layer one pixel in front of the text layer. Now set the Text layer as an Alpha track matte for the Texture layer and turn the Text layer back on. As a last step, try fiddling with blend modes.

Let me know if that fixes your problem. It should.
