When I make a new composition, nothing shows up in my preview window

That's not ideal. We can get it checked. Please share the following details so that we can diagnose the issue better:

What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)?
What's the version of After Effects you're using?
What happens when you create a new Composition? Are there any error messages? Is the Composition black? Please share a screenshot that shows the problem.
