Adobe After Effects Crash Repair Options on Opening App

Everytime I open any version of after effects it says crash repair options and then the spinny wheel on the mac shows up and it stays like that forever not letting me use any version of after effects. I've tried deleting and reinstalling and it doesn't work. What should I do

Apologies, but I can't find any instance of Bartender on this machine.
It's not in applications and I cannot seem to find it hidden in any of the usual places either.
Any idea as to where I can find the relevant files and then nix them please?
Thanks!

Ah, to update you. Not sure if it's related, but a bit of digging led me to find that I had something called 'Boring Notch' installed and that deleting this might help.
This I have done and after a restart, Afterb Effects now runs as it should.
Could well be that the restart was the magic bullet, but either way (fingers crossed) it's now ok...

Thank you for the input - it's much appreciated. 🙂

Hi, I'm also having this issue and would really appreciate a fix!
I am trying to open After Effects 2025 on a new Mac for the first time.
When starting the app it initially asked me if I would like to migrate effects from my previous installation, to which I said yes.
Then it just sat there and did nothing.
I force-quit the application and upon restarting was presented with the crash repair options screen. However, I also just get the beachball and the app will not launch any futher than this.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects but it still seems to be 'detecting a crash' and so we just go though the same cycle of launch, hang, force quit, etc.

Specs are:
Apple M4 Max
36 GB memory
OS Tahoe 26.0.1

After Effects version I am attempting to run is v 25.5

After force-quitting from the hung options screen I get the attached popup.

Any help also gratefully appreciated as per the original poster - thank you very much much in advance!

Dave.

It lists Bartender in your crash message. Have you tried uninstalling that?

Apparently it;s not playing nice with Tahoe:

Hi @Benjamin388842423fj7:

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble.  Crashes could be caused by corrupt preferences, a third-party effect, a corrupt font, an add-on, or an extension.  Sometimes other software that's running at the same time can cause issues as well.

Does After Effects open if you choose Safe Mode?  And, if so, are you able to create a basic animation in a Composition and render it?  That's a good starting point for troubleshooting.

Have you tried logging out of the Creative Cloud app, restarting and then logging back in?
