Adobe After Effects CS6(11.0.4) Win11 - Knoll Light Factory 3.0.4 can´t load - MediaCore issue

Hello everyone,

After a long search online and contacting the plugin developer, I'm turning to you because I'm pretty sure it's an Adobe problem (or can only be solved in After Effects), and I'm also quite certain it's related to the MediaCore interface.

When I install the plugin and run After Effects CS6, I get the error message shown in the screenshot.

___Fehlermeldung-Start-AE-CS6.jpg

I've tried everything, but nothing has worked. I installed the trial version for testing purposes, so I could try everything without worry. That's why I then let the Adobe App Manager CS6 automatically update to Adobe Cloud CC, which, as you know, renders the CS6 App Manager unusable "without asking." The result is that not only does the App Manager update from CS6 to CC, but presumably parts of the MediaCore interface do as well? This question is for experts who may have noticed this behavior before. Because after the App Manager update, the plugin suddenly works perfectly.

My question is whether there's a way to back up the updated MediaCore files (DLL files? Registry entry?) so that I don't have to manually update the AppManager to CC during the proper installation later, which I absolutely don't want to do, as the plugin runs without problems under Knoll Light Factory 3.0.1. I'd otherwise have to manually overwrite the "patched, updated" MediaCore files. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for your help and ideas.

Best regards,

As the expert suggested, CS6 is an old version and providing support may not be possible. You can try reaching out to the plug-in manufacturer and see if they can help.

Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions.

Thanks,

Hi, thanks for reply,

For better understanding: When I install Knoll Light Factory (KLF) 3.0.1, I get no errors loading After Effects CS6, and the plugin itself works perfectly. The error only occurs when I install the newer version, KLF 3.0.4, which was officially developed for CS6. (See screenshot.)

This error disappears, however, when I double-click the Adobe Application Manager (for CS6), which then transforms into the Adobe Desktop CC Manager.

From that point on, my Adobe Application Manager (for CS6) no longer works, while KLF 3.0.4 works without any problems in After Effects CS6.

So, no direct changes were made to either After Effects CS6 or the KLF 3.0.4 plugin. Therefore, I suspect it's related to Media Core, which probably happens when the Application Manager (for CS6) is converted to Adobe Desktop CC Manager, and Media Core is also updated in the process.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what Media Core is or, more importantly, in which installation directory I can find its files. Web research suggests it's an interface between several Adobe programs. This means MediaCore isn't just used in After Effects, but also in Premiere and others. Can anyone shed some light on this?

MediaCore is also available under Creative Cloud, so it's not a relic from CS6.

It would be very helpful to know where the Media Core files for CS6 are located. It's not a program you can double-click.

You may already be aware that CS6 very old and is no longer supported. This is probably the root of your problem.

Unfortunately I don't see this being fixed if you continue with CS 6.
