Adobe After effects paint/drawing animation

Hi. I am in desparate need of some help, I am trying to make it so that I can see my previous frame of my drawing animation, but evertime I open the paint tool and use it, I cannot see what I previously drew. Can someone please help me.

Are you looking in the Composition Window? Also, please make sure that the paint panel is set to "Constant" and not write-on or another option.
