Question

AE 24.5 Roto brush keeps propagating

Hi,

I'm quite new to AE.

I apologise in advance as I'm not familiar with all the terminology as yet, although very familiar with PS/LR and Apple media programs.

I have taken a couple of AE beginners courses and all went well. I'm making my own project  and have used the Roto brush. The first time it worked easily, I was able to make a video that is about a minute long and sucessfully export it via Media Encoder. However, I wasn't happy with it so I tried to re-do the Rotobrush part of the project which I wanted to export and then add into the original project as a finished .mp4. However, I cannot get AE to stop propagating, even though I havn't added any further refinements after the first frame. I took a chance and I did try to export it, it started well but then stopped.

I've spoken to Abobe support who checked my system and said it's sufficient and should run the program (they sent me a tutorial but it was the same info as the one I'd watched on th Adobe site ) I then I spoke to Apple who checked that all was well with my Mac. I understand that my processor should be better but Adobe support didn't seem concerned.

Can anyone help me please?

iMac

3.1 6-core intel i5

64GB Ram

AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4 GB

Sonoma 14.5

CC AE 24.5

I have all of my media on an external 4TB HD and another 1TB one just for the cache.

Many Thanks

Christine

Have you tried the freeze button?

Hi Finn,

thank you for the response. It seems I had a problem that Adobe support were able to sort out. They did advise me to use the Roto brush on 20 second sections of the video and export each section as I go. I'm trying that right now.
Kind regards

christine

That's a workaround that I use a lot when working with long duration clips. Thanks for updating the thread, Christine.

Feel free to reach out.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Christine,

Sorry for your issue and late reply.

Does it happen with all the projects or this particular one? Have you tried clearing the cache (Edit > Purge > All Media & Disk Cache)? If that doesn't help, try running After Effects in Safe Mode

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu,

Thank you for the response. I had a few problems that Adobe supports sorted for me, including a cache issue that I didn’t know about. They also told me to break my project into smaller sections-20 seconds. I’m literally just trying again now.

Kind Regards
Christine
