AE CC 2018 and 2019 / Cinema 4D Lite are not working together anymore.

Hello, about 4 months ago (it's now Nov 9, 2018) after starting after effects and selecting "File/New/Maxon Cinema 4D file" it would start C4D and open a new project. I could then save the project and open it later. (that was through AE CC 2018)

This function is no longer possible.  when I try to start Cinema 4D using the .c4d file, nothing happens. if I double click the .c4d file from inside AE, nothing happens. If I use the open command / all file formats from AE and select the .c4d file, nothing happens.

I thought the problem might be a lack of updates so I updated C4D this morning and it had no effect on the problem.  I'm not sure these softwares are talking to each other any more.

Are there Maxon forums I can address this to? Or is this something that adobe can help me with?

I'm running Windows 10 pro and the creative cloud for updates with cinema 4D R19.009 Build RBLITE211131.

Many thanks,

Jeff

If you click the link that says “Options” at the top of the Effects panel for Cineware. In here you can select which version of Cinema 4D will open when you attempt to edit a C4D file. It’s possible that this link is broken or that the disk permissions are blocking access to the app. In here make sure to select the version on C4D you want to use. Then, in the timeline, select the file and then go to Edit > Edit Original to open it in C4D

I'm having the same issue. I keep getting the same Pop-Up:

"After Effects: AEGP Plugin CINEWARE SceneLayer: CINERENDER-Connection failure"  (5027 :: 12)

If you import the C4D, then drop it in a timeline does the Cineware Effect get added?

If you click Show does C4D Lite open up with nothing in the viewer? If it does that just open a new file in C4D lite, make sure the empty one is closed, and save the file. That should solve the problem.

Ok, so I can open a .c4d from within after effects by selecting  the layer then "edit/edit Original". (as per the instructions from the C4D help section I accessed it from rick's suggestion by clicking show.)

so that's a workaround I can accept.

I started updating this morning because I wanted the HUD to display Projection info. As per the attached screenshot, I can't tell which view is which because it won't project the HUD info.  How do I see "front left Right", etc?

Or is that a new thread?
many thanks,

Is the Cineware effect still applied to the .c4d file? When you go into the prefs of the effect (inside the Effects Controls panel) there is a place to select both the render engine and the installed version of C4D. Since you're using C4D Lite these should be set to default, but check those paths to make sure they're set correctly. Feel free to post a screenshot back here.

from AE I can open the saved c4d file and the included screenshot says yes, cineware (is on top?)

however the render options don't give "default" there's:
Standard (final)

Standard (draft)
Software
Open GL

I've been trying all this with the Software option

I'm also going to try Rick's suggestion
