AE CC 2018 won't launch on MacBook Pro - Preferences Problem

I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled AE, but it will not launch. I get an error:

After Effects can't continue: Error while accessing the preference files inside /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/15.0", please verify the file permissions and try again.

I am finding very confusing information as to what might remedy the situation. I am having trouble finding the files to trash them even with making hidden files visible. I am definitely not an expert with computers, but this seems to be a lot to go through just to use software that I paid good money for. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey samuelr,

    Sorry for your issue!

It looks like something is wrong with the permissions on the 15.0 folder. That folder needs Read & Write permissions to function properly.

    1. Press the Option key. In the Finder menu choose Go > Library. This is your User Library.
    2. In the Library, go to Preferences > Adobe > After Effects.
    3. Control-click on 15.0 folder and choose > Get Info.
    4. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you see all computer’s users listed. Your User account should say Read & Write next to it.
    5. Unlock the lock, enter login details, then click and choose > Read & Write (if it is not already set that way).
    6. Click the gear icon directly under the usernames and choose “Apply to enclosed items…” Click the lock once more to save changes. Note: even if the permissions are set correctly for this folder, please go through this step as the enclosed folders may be set incorrectly.
    7. Reboot the computer.
    8. Launch After Effects. Your permissions should now be set correctly.

Here is a screenshot of the Adobe folder for your reference:

Let us know if this helps.

    Rameez,

Thank you for your response. Following your directions did allow AE to open, but, it seems that I am unable to save a project. When I try to save a project, I get an error message that reads:

After Effects warning: Could not open the file "/<name of file>.aep

    Saving would be helpful.
