AE CC2019 Freezing During Save

After Effects keeps freezing during autosave. It seems to be intermittent. It is not one single project and it also freezes during normal saves sometimes. If It crashed, I could send in an error report, but AE doesn't even want to do that.

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz

Memory: 16 GB

After the same issues with opening the previous version of AE file (which has caused the freezing during the save) I tried this procedure:

1. I imported the AE document (instead of opening it)

2. then I used "Save as a Copy" to save it

3. I had also deleted all the Cached data (Purge > All Memory & Disc Cache) before I saved it.

Just be quicker than the Autosave

Not sure if it’s gonna help but for me the issue is gone now.

Try purging your After Effects.

Purging didn't help either. (P.S. What's an average cache size? Mine was 185 GB)

When you work a lot in Ae and have no idea what the Media Cache is, it is normal that you have more or less that amount. This is a help to your RAM to host the previews and save them when you close After Effects and turn off your computer, when you turn it on again and open Ae you no longer need to do the previews again while you are working on the application in the same project. If you delete the Media Cache, you delete those saved previous ones and you must do them again. This is the simple explanation.

I am not having any saving issues using a very similar machine. What's going on in your compositions? It's hard to nail down a problem like this if you can't find some common something in the workflow or the source footage. One version of AE that I had on my system once would either freeze up or crash on save if I had used Rotobrush on a layer that was more than 10 seconds long and it was 4K. It only took me about 10 crashes to realize that was the one thing that all of the projects had in common.

Let us know if you discover anything common to the projects that cause the problem and, even if you don't have crash reports, make sure you file a bug with a workflow description that is as detailed as you can make it.
