AE Crashes When Exporting a Comp that uses Rotobrush on Apple Silicon M1

I'm working on a new project for a client that requires the use of the Rotobrush. I'm running into an issues where both playing back the comp or attempting to export the comp that has a layer with Rotobrush results in After Effects unexpectedly quitting. According to other support forums I've come across, this seems to be because I'm using AE on an Apple Silicon M1 computer.

I wanted to note that I've tried this in both the most recent version of AE (18.0) and the previous version (17.7). Both result in AE crashing. I am running macOS beta 11.3.

I really need this to work for an important client project and don't have access to any other computers. Any fixes?

Good news! After seeing another support forum thread say the latest update fixed the issue on their M1 computer, I decided to try one more complete uninstall/reinstall and it works! Even without having to pre-comp and freeze, it works as expected. Thanks for your help!

If you have access to it you might want to try the public beta. I believe it is 18.3.

If that does not work you'll have to wait for a newer build. There is almost no chance a previous version of After Effects will be updated to take advantage of the M1 chip.

Try putting your Rotobrush layer in a separate comp and rendering just that comp using the Render Queue and the Lossless With Alpha preset in the Output Module. Make sure Rotobrush has been frozen.

When the file has been rendered, import and replace the roto comp/layer with the rendered movie.

Apologies for the late response. I moved the Rotobrush layer to a new comp and attempted to freeze the Rotobrush before rendering. Unfortunately as soon as I clicked the freeze button, AE crashed. I also updated to v18.1 and created a new project which resulted in the same issue. I really need to get this working. Any other suggestions? MUCH appreciated!
