Question

AE crashes when selecting any Apple's SF Pro Font Family

Adobe After Effects crashes when you're doing :

  • Track Camera
  • Set as Ground Plane
  • Place Text on Ground Plane
  • You select the Text layer, and set the Font to any "SF Pro" font family

You can find the Apple SF Pro font family here. It's Apple's System font, and can also be used as a Modern Sans font or for animating any Apple related design use cases (e.g. UI design on Apple platforms, that's why it's important this gets fixed)

For some reasons, it crashes AE by just selecting it.
But apparently, it doesn't crash AE when applying the font in non-tracked camera (normal Text layer).

You may find the behavior on this screen capture video : https://cln.sh/95f0nG

Thanks. Let me know if you guys have fixed this yet.

Hi Mancerrss:

We made a fix specific to this particular Font - Apple SF Pro version 17.1d1e1 - released in 22.3, which is available for update from Creative Cloud.

Appreciate hearing if this update stops yours crashes.

SF Pro is still extremely slow to work with on Apple M1 machines with the latest update to AE (https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/after-effects-really-slow-with-sf-pro-font/td-p/11942941/page/2)
