@Tom Olsen Yes! had this issue for a few years. Looked into it many times, but never found a solution that works. After Effects keeps popping in front of other windows. It is incredibly annoying. Not an expert, but it is very clearly a bug, can't be that hard to fix...can it?

@Tom Olsenis there any update on this? - many of us have been on this for over 4 years now. Is massively counter productive for many of us working with AE stealing focus over everything else.

Figure it's been another half a year since I last poked @Tom Olsen about this issue, so I'll do it again now.

Again: It's still a constant daily annoyance for me and hundreds of other users (lowball imo), and as @Tom Olsen points out, it's unintended behaviour that needs to be removed.

What is the point of the existance of the Adobe Community forum, if the right person can see a problem, and people proving it and sharing how annoying it is FOR YEARS, and nobody does anything?

The point of the illusion of a multibillion dollar company caring about user input.

Yes the single most annoying glitch i have with after effects. Doesn't happen with any other adobe software or any other company, just AE. Causes so many problems if you are on another task and just pops up over, especially if you are copying stuff. Please fix this, so many people will be entirely grateful - affects so many users

It happens with photoshop too. But not with Premiere nor Illustrator.

The other thing is when I run any adobe software it would switch to it when it it loaded.. I DON'T need to switch ! I usually press ALT+TAB 2 times minimum just to switch my attention to another program while adobe app is loading I DON'T want to stare every day on how it is loading ...

There should a a choice on wethere I want Adobe to interrupt my work in other apps or not !!

Understand and agree. I'm having difficulty reproducing this behavior here, though. What version of AE are you running?

If you are Windows based there's no way you have difficulty reproducing this behaviour Tom, thie happens when After Effects finishes any process, saving, autosaving, opening, finish rendering, even closing the program, is completely annoying and out of control

Also does this as soon as it auto saves on a mac. And because AFX is notorious for crashing, I have auto save set to every 5 mins, so you can imagine how annoying that is when I have AFX hidden but it keeps bullying anything else out of the way to shout "I JUST AUTO SAVED FOR YOU! AND I'M HERE, AND I'M MORE IMPORTANT THAT WHATEVER ELSE YOU'RE DOING!"
This doesn't seem like a bug, just something thats built in? Pls fix!

@Tom Olsenany update on this issue?
I understand your team is busy but this is one of the most frustrating aspect of working in After Effects.
Personally I don't care about all the 3d features constantly being added to Ae. I'd just like to see this software to be user friendly.
Thank you.

Hi, Frank. I've been trying to reproduce this issue on Windows repeatedly and, so far, have not had any success. After Effects hasn't stolen focus. Believe me, I would love to find out what's causing this problem for you. Are you using a Mac or Windows? And if Windows, which version specifically? When you move After Effects to the background (while rendering, etc), are you minimizing the app?
Thanks,
Tom

Can't believe this post has so few upvotes and it hasn't received any updates. Not to mention many new versions of After Effects have come out and this behavior is still there.

I would also add that this also happens when you open AE. If you switch to the web browser for example, once AE opens it steals the focus and jumps right on top of everything. Insanely annoying behavior that contrary to what other people said in this thread does not happen with any other app. After Effects is the only one that steals focus like this, not even other Adobe apps do this...open Photoshop and you'll see.

So blaming Windows is not really fair or an excuse.

I really think those big companies like M$ or Adobe dont give a f*** what you say or ask. The issue reported on M$ website is from 2016. 7 years has passed and the issue still persiste. THIS IS F***** JOKE.

PanBeep, you hit the nail on the head. You as a single Adobe customer don't matter for this company because of how big they are.
There is an issue with our software? Let's wait and see if n number of users will report it because we're busy adding useless flashy features no one asked for. Otherwise: "Thank you for bringing it to our attention, we'll look into it." and ignore you and the issue like Tom Olsen did.

Offtopic: funny how ShiveringCactus tried to blame you for rendering directly in After Effects and calling your workflow an issue. Many of us work this way for various of reasons. And contrary to the "Community Expert" Cactus comment, Adobe brought back "mp4" to that "legacy" exporting method.

Yeah this is so annoying. Adobe, you aren't that important that you can interrupt my other tasks. Make this 'feature' a toggle in prefrences or disable the action. Calvary is coming for you lol do better

Looks like it is Microsft's fault
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c22363e5-802c-4f43-b4e3-8a7259865648/windows-10-stop-any-application-from-stealing-focus-ever-is-it-possible

I wonder if Adobe could block it somehow in their software.... or better... they should push MS to fix is ASAP.

If it would be an OS fault then why neither Illustrator nor Premiere do it but Photoshop and After Effects do?

I Know you guys must have been working so hard trying to fix and develop AE, but issue needs attention, AE Steals focus when it's done launching, done loading a project, done saving or autosaving, and done rendering, and It did just happen now while writing this reply 😄 and it can't be quickly evaded, I have to press alt+TAB couple of times, it feels like a bug more than a normal behavior.

Thanks!
