AE2025 freezes for seconds when focusing its window (W11)

I have been experiencing a weird bug with after effects 2025 for a while now on Windows 11, which causes all of it to freeze for a few seconds when alt-tabbing back to it or focusing it from any other window.

This happens both with gpu acceleration disabled and enabled, latest GPU drivers (tried both studio and game ready) and even in safe mode with all plugins disabled.

However 2024 doesn't have this issue so it's seemingly related to the new UI introduced in 2025.

 

Has anyone experienced simliar and found a fix for it?

 

I have also attached a log file of opening up AE2025 with a new project, creating an empty comp and alt tabbing out and back in, which instantly causes the error to occur (but the issue also occurs with no project open)

You launch After Effects 2025 by safe mode. You check some old third-party plug-ins if the launch is no problem with safe mode.

Sadly the issue happens in safe mode too and with 0 plugins enabled.

Are you using any other GPU-intensive apps while using After Effects? If yes, can you check if closing other apps brings any change? Also, go to After Effects Preferences > Display > and toggle "Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels"
