(.aep) bad format or not readable

I recently completed a video editing project in After Effects. However, after finishing,
the application unexpectedly crashed. When I reopened After Effects, the project file (.aep) wouldn't open,
and I received a warning that it is in a "bad format or not readable." Could you please help me with a solution?
