After affects simply not previewing

When I click preview or even press spacebar the program does nothing. It doesn't even move, it's not lag or anything else as the rest of it runs smoothly. What do I do?

Sorry for your issue.

Would you mind sharing your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)? As suggested by @ToolfarmJP, did removing the cache help? If not, try resetting the preferences of After Effects to make the settings default: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-p/10634342?page=1

Is the green bar at the top of the timeline filling?

There are some possible causes. Would you try to delete the old cahe?

 

Edit menu > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache
