after effect not saving to external drive or rendering

I can't seem to save file to external drive, I've checked permissions, also it won't go to render. I'm able to save the project to my desktop but not dropbox folder on external drive. 

version 22.4 on mac

was working before last upgrade

Without any detailed system information we can't tell you much. You need to be more specific, in particular about how your drives are connected, what their names are and so on. Also check the various Adobe folders. Deleting the prefs and clearing the cache folders fixes a lot of issues, even if users really should not have to employ such unsafe procedures to get AE working.

 this is the error I get when trying to save

It is a seagate drive that I have been using all along connected via USB 

I have tried to clear the cache on AE---where do I delete preferences?

I'm not sure what you mean by check the various adobe folders?
