After Effect - Tools won't open to show more options

Hi there,

I just downloaded Adobe After Effect (newest version) and I cannot roll down any tools when I hover over it or click on it. (f.ex. I only have rectangle accessible but cannot access the rest of the tools like rounded rectangle, polygon etc). I tried downloading previous versions hoping it was some sort of a bug but it doen't work on any of them. Any ideas how to fix that?

Thank you!

Julie

I'm a new user of AE but I see that not all tools can be switched with a keyboard shortcut. For example, I cannot come up with a way to switch on the Convert vertex tool without being able to roll them out.  I have a time sensitive project for my studies, I trully hope this issue can be resolve soon..

You can find many on that page:

For example:

Or just learn by experimenting with combinations.

Try pressing the shortcut key (q for shapes) and look at the icon changes. I can't remember the last time I actually clicked on a toolbar tool except for paint and rotobrush.

You should also change the UI acceleration preferences for AE and see if turning off acceleration helps. It could even be your mouse settings.

Hi Julie,

Sorry for your issue.

Could you try resetting the preferences of After Effects: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-p/10634342

Let us know if it helps.

What happens if you use the shortcut? For example, press Q (for rectangle, oval, etc) or G (pen tool and variable feather tool) several times to change between same group tools.
