After effects 2020 version 17.7 crashing on startup

Upon startup after effects crashes "after effects can't continue: unexpected failure during application startup" message appears. I'm using Mac OS 15.4.1 sequoia.

Upon startup After Effects 2025 version 25.3.1 will not launch. "After Effects can't continue: Error while acessing the preference files inside"users/(computer name)/library/preferences/Adobe/After Effects/25.3", please verify the file permissions and try again." WHen I follow this path, I see that the library folder is "greyed out". This is probably because my creative cloud apps are running from am external hard drive. Still, this does not lead to any solution so far.
