Hi Adobe Support,

I'm experiencing a crash every time I try to launch After Effects 2024. The error message I receive is:

After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <12448> <AppDirs> <5> Required Dir = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects 2024\Support Files\Required

Steps I’ve already tried:

  • Fully uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects via the Creative Cloud app

  • Launched the app with administrator privileges

  • Verified that the Support Files\Required directory exists

  • Tried to install the lower update 24 and it just showing me this  <4268> <AppDirs> <5> Required Dir

  • Reset After Effects preferences at launch (Ctrl + Alt + Shift)

Despite these steps, the app continues to crash during launch.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue, or guide me on further troubleshooting steps?

Issue was resolved by technical team.

Solution they help me with the setup of security permission and after that when they opened it with adminstrative user login it works fine.

Could you outline the steps you took? I'm encountering the same issue right now after my partner had an AE crash on my laptop

    Hi Sean,

On Windows, right-click the After Effects icon and select Run as administrator. If that doesn't help, try the steps in the following article: https://adobe.ly/40LC0WL

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Nishu

Sorry to hear about the crash.

What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? Have you recently installed any new fonts? What happens if you run After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled? Does it help? Are there any crash reports?

    Let me know.

    Thanks,
    Nishu
