After Effects 21-22 Preview & Rendering dpx and exr sequences >50% slower than previous versions.

Regardless of which  After Effects 22 or 21 version, compositing and rendering DPX and especially EXR sequences is extremely slow to the point of not being manageable. We've spoken to collegues in other studios and they are all having the same issues. Regardless of turning multi-frame rendering on or off. Just wondering if this is something that Adobe is aware of and will fix soon as it's a major issue for us.

Welcome to the community.

There are some minor performance-related issues but I haven't seen any issues that are specific to DPX or EXR. Would you mind sharing more details:

  • What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version)? Are your colleagues using the same OS?
  • Where did you get the EXR, DPX files from? What's the source?
  • Is it the preview performance or overall After Effects is slowed down when you use EXR/DPX? If possible, please share a screen recording that shows the problem.
