After effects 23.3 freezes on initializing media core startup screen then crashes

I stopped using after effects for about a month, tried opening it and had this problem, not really sure what could be causing this problem, ive uninstalled after effects and creative cloud as a whole but that did nothing. Ive tried starting in administrator, deleting my preference folder, allowing all adobe software through my firewall. I cant really think of anything else to try so if anyone has any ideas please let me know, if you need more information let me know.
Thanks

After wasting two entire days of my life and nearly smashing the PC, I fixed it by going to Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Change Default Graphics Settings and turning OFF the Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling

Hi all,

Updating the GPU driver fixed this issue for some users.

Let us know if that works for you.

Thanks,

Nishu

I didn't login on After Effects, Premiere Pr, etc for a month because of my exams and when I logged in 2-3 days ago it got stuck at initializing Mediacore and then created a crash file. I'm so annoyed at this point, I'm on trial version and wanna buy it because I wanna learn better editing. But this bug is not letting me login in any of these. I cleared the Mediacore files except the Dummy.txt but It didn't help me at all.

At least for AE, I'd start by upgrading to AE 23.3, which should be available in CCD. The portion of the crash file the video showed appears to indicate a buffer overrun situation which may have been fixed in the newer AE version.

Good afternoon. Please tell me, AE does not open. When I go to AE via Creative CD, the wheel spins and then throws it out and a CRASH file is created on the desktop. tried reinstalling, updating, completely deleting Adobe suggestions. but the problem never went away.

Update the drivers of GPU and restart the pc with windows updates also check if you're GPU driver is perfectly installed. And if you turned off graphics card turn it on before starting the Ae Pr etc

Hi James and Amay29318398zb1b,

Sorry for your issue.

It could happen due to unsupported/corrupted third-party plug-ins. Please try this: Go to the following location and remove (or move to a different location to keep a backup) all the files and folders except dummy.txt and try to launch After Effects.

Location on Windows - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore

Location on macOS - HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plugins/7.0/MediaCore

Let us know how it goes.

Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi there,

I am here to help. Could you share more details on what's happening? Are there any error messages or crash reports?

Thanks,
Nishu

without any system info we can't tell you much. The usual suspects apply: check your graphics driver and update it, make sure local access to all files and folders is possible and the CC stuff can connect to the Adobe servers.

If you have your GPU turned off then turn it on and update the graphics drivers for the GPU and it will work like it used to do. I faced same issue and went to uninstall Adobe like 3-4 times when I didn't knew it was my GPU 😂.
