After Effects 24.0.1 is crashing while working

Just selecting a layer in a comp is enough to crash After Effects.
Also selecting an effect in the effects panel can turn After Effects in a flashing frenzy.
After Effects seems broken on the most basic level...

    Ok I thought I was going crazy. Same here random insta-crash every couple of minutes, sometimes it will last 10-20 min before crash, sometimes it will crash as soon as I click on something in one of the UI panels.

    No custom UI, I've also tried safe mode and have 95% of plugins disabled now but same sh**. Quadro a5000, 128gb ram etc etc etc...current projects are tiny, too

    Like...HOW do you manage to do this?

      Same issue, cant even add an effect without a random crash

      When AE does crash, do you get a crash report dialog? If so, can you make sure to enter your email address (the one associated to this forums account) and submit the report, then post back here. We can look  up the crash to see what is going on.

      I just want to come and say I'm dealing with this exact same thing. It's insane how you have a beast of a computer and yet are still dealing with crashes. I have 32 GB ram on an MBP. I have never had this issue two years ago. I am very frustrated with Adobe it's like everything of theirs is broken.

      If you can, try out the 24.4 Beta that is available to download in CCD. It has some fixes related to comp/effects panel selection that might fix your issue.

        @Stoyan30634397uiqp Can you share more of repro steps, or a video of what's happening? Do you get a crash report dialog after AE stops working? We have millions of sessions succeeding every day, so it sounds more like a system specific issue so we'll need more info to be able to help.

        No, i don't have time to do this. I'm in the middle of production and the issue is annoying. It reversed to 2024.1 and seems more stable but crashed on fast box blur and I wanted to disable it. .....  Thinking about it it started with the latest win update ... 

        I will try to gather some logs.

        still I sometimes get the flashing interface when selecting an effect in the Effects Control panel, so that one doesn't seem related to the Audio Panel being on.

          Do you get the flashing even if the third-party plug-ins are disabled? Also, are you getting issues in new projects as well or is this the only project that creating problems?

          Just tried in Safe Mode, result is the same, AE crashes when selecting the layer.

          So I tried disabling every third party UI script and panels and extentions, but it made no difference. Selecting the default layout does seem to work, so next I looked at the first party panels. And after some testing and crashing I found that turning off the Audio panel stops the crashing (so far). So there might be a problem with the After Effects Audio panel...

          It looks like you have a number of third-party script UI/panels installed - I don't know how many of those have been validated to work on AE 24.* at this time. Can you reverting to a default workspace with just built-in panels and see if that helps?
