After Effects 24.5 crashes on loading - MediaCore plugin error message

I updated After Effects to the new 24.5 and it just crashes upon the loading screen and supplies the error crash message - Last log message was: <194416> <MEE_Plugins> <5> /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore

My setup

iMac M1

Mac Os 14.6 Sonoma

I have tried re-installing as well as installing AE Beta and older version of AE to see and I get the same error message, I basically can't open or run AE at all... I cannot do my day job now and am in trouble.

Further investigation on this end seems to be pointing to the install of Camera Raw being bad. If you can go to /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC and delete the Camera Raw.plugin file and try restarting AE, that may resolve the issue.

Doesn't appear there are any crashes with the email associated to your forum account in our system. So next step is to try to get a log file so we can see a bit more detail.

Go to /Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/24.5/logs

Create a text file called After Effects Log.txt

Now start AE

After it crashes and you close everything, go back to the logs folder

Open up After Effects Log.txt and copy/paste the contents back to this forum thread.

Thanks. Yeah, older versions of AE won't work on Sonoma because Apple changed the Sonoma OS just enough to break compatibility. So it'll need to be AE 24.1 or above. Let me see if I can find any of your crashes in our system.

I am yes, I have completed a few of those but not doing anymore now. After I submit or ignore I am back to my desktop and AE is closed (crashed). I am unsure what else could be installed. I was initially on Mac OS 12 Monterey with all apps functioning and went ahead with app updates as normal, all updated and then AE started the crashing... I tried with re-install of the previous version and was crashing just the same. After not getting any further with this I went ahead and upgraded my OS to 14 Sonoma and re-installed all my Adobe apps again and once more all functioned except AE, also tried older verions of AE and same issues repeated with the same crash reports.

After you crash, are you getting a dialog to submit the crash to Adobe? Or is there anything else that shows up that you can share? It's very likely something else has been installed on your system, especially as older versions are also not working. Perhaps a codec for a camera or some other piece of hardware.

Hi, I get the same error crash message when I click "Manage Plug-ins". In the folder for HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plugins/7.0/MediaCore there are no third party plug-ins it is empty bar teh dummy.txt file. No hiddens files in here either. I had already read online here about this fix but nothing to copy out.

What can we do?

Sorry to hear about the crash. Have you tried disabling the plug-ins when in Manage Plug-ins? If not, give that a try. In case it doesn't help, go to the following location and remove (or move to a different location to keep a backup) all the files and folders except dummy.txt and try to launch After Effects.

Location on macOS - HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plugins/7.0/MediaCore

Note: macOS has two different libraries, User Library and System Library. You need to go to System Library.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nishu

Tried again today from Safe Mode and this message comes wether I click on "Contine", "Manage Plugins" or "Reset Preferences"

Safe mode creates a crash just the same and the same error message box

The next time you startup AE, are you prompted to start up in Safe mode? If you do that, what happens?
